Independent Non-Executive Director, AIG UK

David Smith joined the Board as an independent non-executive director on 1 January 2020. David is the Senior Independent Director and chair of the Board Risk Committee. He is also a member of the Audit Committee, the Reserves & Underwriting Committee and the Remuneration Committee. 

David is a Chartered Engineer and spent his early career in engineering consultancy and technical services. He served 27 years in varying roles at Zurich Insurance, including Managing Director of the UK Commercial and Personal Lines businesses, leaving as CEO in April 2015. From 2004 to 2015 he was an independent non-executive director at Polaris UK Ltd, the insurance industry standards and software body, chairing the Board from 2013 to 2015. He has also served on the boards of BUPA Insurance Limited, AA Insurance Limited and the Chartered Insurance Institute.

David is currently the Board Chair at Lockton Companies LLP, and an independent non-executive director at National Farmers Mutual and Altitude Group Plc.
